Guidelines

CCAC guidelines establish the basic requirements for each institutional program within the Canadian system of oversight of animal ethics and care. Assessments of institutional animal ethics and care programs are based on CCAC guidelines (animal care; types of animals; procedures; and program management) and assessment policies, as well as other relevant documents. Compliance with CCAC guidelines and policies is a requirement to receive a CCAC Certificate of GAP – Good Animal Practice®, as determined by CCAC assessment panels.

Three Rs information and additional resources such as frequently asked questions (FAQs) are intended to support the implementation of the guidelines and to encourage institutions to evaluate new practices to enhance their animal ethics and care programs.

Policies pertaining to the Assessment and Certification program can be found in the Certification section.
