The delivery of the CCAC’s mandate is based in large part on our guidelines, which give clear direction to institutional animal ethics and care programs. With the help of our subcommittees of volunteer experts, the CCAC develops these guidelines and ensures that they are timely and relevant, informed by expert peer advice and current interpretation of scientific evidence, and are reflective of Canadian values.

The CCAC is also a champion of Russell and Burch’s Three Rs, widely accepted internationally as the principles of animal ethics. We incorporate the Three Rs into our guidelines and strongly encourage individuals to practice these principles of replacement, reduction, and refinement.
