Scientific Merit: Sample Peer Review Form
The CCAC requires that all animal-based research projects be peer reviewed for scientific merit prior to their approval by an animal care committee (ACC).
In cases where independent peer review has not been carried out by the granting agencies, institutions must have in place a mechanism that ensures that at least two independent experts, who do not collaborate with the protocol author(s) (at least one of whom is not a member of the ACC), review the objectives, hypotheses, methods and contributions of the project.
A sample form for structuring reviewers' comments on the scientific merit of an animal-based research project is provided here. Institutions are encouraged to use and adapt this form as needed.
