Trends in Animal Use

The CCAC has been publishing national surveys of animal use in research, teaching and testing since 1975. Trends in animal use throughout the years can be found here. Please click here to refer for the analysis of the trends.

It is important to note, however, that data published before 1996 were not collected with the same methodology and that categories of animals are somewhat different from the ones currently used. Therefore, data prior to 1996 should be used as guide (only). Furthermore, in 1996 and 1997, not all animals could be categorized by the purpose of their use. This is why graphs and tables showing the purpose of animal use don’t contain information for those years.
